BURN BAN
224 0
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2025
Due to extremely dry conditions and a high fire danger index, which significantly increase the risk of rapid fire spread, the Riverton Area Fire Protection District is issuing a burn ban for all areas within its jurisdiction.
This burn ban strictly prohibits all open burning, including but not limited to:
• Burning of yard waste, brush, and garbage
• Bonfires and campfires
• Agricultural burns
This burn ban will remain in effect until weather conditions improve and the risk of fire has been significantly reduced.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping to prevent wildfires and protect our community.
VIOLATIONS OF THIS BURN BAN MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE EXTINGUISHMENT OF THE FIRE BY THE RIVERTON FIRE DEPARTMENT AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO FINES OR OTHER LEGAL PENALTIES.
Updates regarding the burn ban will be posted on our social media page.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the Riverton Fire Department at 217-629-8107.
In case of a fire emergency, please call 911 immediately.
Sincerely,
David Hunsley
Fire Chief
Riverton Area Fire Protection District
